EXTERMINATOR SHOT

An exterminator sent to a Lake Edward apartment was shot by the apartment resident Wednesday after a disagreement between the two men, police said.

The wounded man, who works for Dodson Bros. Exterminating Co. Inc., was shot in the leg at least twice, police said. Donald L. Busby Jr., 32, was admitted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in stable condition, authorities said.

Police spokesman Mike Carey said Busby was sent to the apartment on Arvida Court around 9 a.m. as part of a pest-control contract with the property-management company.

A few minutes later, a disagreement erupted between Busby and the resident. Police didn't identify the resident because he hasn't been charged with a crime.

Carey said he couldn't discuss the subject of the men's disagreement until the investigation was further along. Busby, through a hospital spokeswoman, declined to talk about what happened.

A man who answered the apartment phone Wednesday night hung up without answering questions.

After the 54-year-old apartment resident fired a revolver at Busby, the exterminator ran out of the apartment and collapsed on a grassy patch behind the apartment building, Carey said.

The apartment resident was taken to another hospital after he complained of chest pains. He was treated and released.
