CHARLES A. PIERCE

Charles A. Pierce, 81, formerly of the 500 block of Montevale Ave., died Nov. 1, 1996, in a local hospital.

Mr. Pierce was born in Merry Hill, Bertie County, N.C., and was the son of the late Thomas A. and Missouri Roberson Pierce. He was the widower of Dorothy Pierce. Mr. Pierce retired as an audiologist for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and formerly worked on the Old Bay Line, to and from Baltimore. He was a former member and violinist with the Norfolk Symphony, was a member of the WTAR Salon Orchestra and played violin in Glad Tidings Church from the 1940s until his health declined. Mr. Piece taught music and played violin, banjo, guitar, mandolin and piano. He was a member of Glad Tidings Church, Norfolk.

Survivors include his daughter, Dorothy Pierce Bowman of Chesapeake; his brother, Paul Pierce of Southwestern Virginia; and two grandsons, Matthew Baise and Andrew Baise.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Glad Tidings Church by the Rev. Gerald Qualls. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. in Hillcrest Cemetery, Colerain, N.C. Viewing will begin on Sunday morning and friends may join the family from 2 to 3 p.m. in Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge.
