As a member or as chairman of the Dare County Board of Commmisioners for most of the last 26 years, Bobby Owens said he is seeking re-election to complete unfinished business.
``This is my last term, without a doubt,'' Owens said. ``I just feel I have a little more to offer.''
Owens wants to increase teachers' supplements by $1,000, continue to improve school-based technology systems and programs and encourage more unity between beach and Roanoke Island students.
He also wants to improve medical services on the Outer Banks.
``I want to see if we can provide a birthing center, a first-class trauma center, some type of facility for cancer patients,'' he said.
Owens said he is undeterred by attacks from his opponents, saying he will not respond in kind. But he was especially critical of Republican radio ads that cast Democrats as supporting rights of homosexuals, rapists and killers.
``We don't need that in Dare County - that's not us,'' he said. ``It's really come to a low blow that there's this kind of politics in Dare County.'' ILLUSTRATION: Photo
