George R. Searls, 77, died Oct. 31, 1996.
A native of Newport News, Mr. Searls was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Colonial Place Church of Christ, Hampton.
Survivors include his wife, Estelle A. Searls; sons, David A. and his wife, Barbara R. Searls of Jackson, Miss., and James M. and his wife, Susan C. Searls of Rochester, N.Y.; a daughter, Brenda S. Carper and her husband, N.R. Carper II of Norfolk; eight grandchildren, Davin C. Moore, R. Dewey Moore, Charlotte E. Ross, Jennifer L. Norris, William Pat Searls, E. Ashley Searls, Davin B. Searls and Lauren O. Searls; brothers, William B. Searls, Thomas F. Searls and Joseph Vincent Searls; and a sister, Mary A. Lindstrom.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Lawrence B. Wood Funeral Home, Hampton, by the Rev. Jimmy Jackson. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends today beginning at 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association, 753 Thimble Shoals Blvd., Suite 2B, Newport News, Va. 23606 or to Colonial Place Church of Christ, Kecoughtan and Allegheny Roads, Hampton, Va. 23661.
