In response to Keith Monroe's Oct. 25 column, ``No experience necessary: No way to select sound officeholders'': I guess I fall in line with some other ``birdbrained enthusiasts'' who think Richard Petty has the qualifications to be secretary of state. It's true Petty achieved international fame for his racing career but he built his million-dollar business empire by managing his career.
As for your touting Elaine Maxwell's qualifications, that being her law degree and being a former state senator - a law degree only acknowledges that you can use $10 words for $1 thoughts and that's the last thing we need in Raleigh. Two years as a state senator (1993-94) vs. a successful 37-year-business career doesn't quite stack up.
