RE-ELECT OWEN PICKETT

As a supporter of Owen Pickett's re-election bid, I would like to concur with Ray Davenport's column (Another View, Oct. 19) on our country's need for unions.

When the Republicans target Mr. Pickett's re-election with an opponent such as they have, the right-to-work (great name for something it really isn't) lie comes out again.

The right-to-work law doesn't give you any rights at all. It is a Republican name for union busting that was invented by persons solely to benefit themselves and their political agenda. No one in the United States is forced to join or remain a member of a union.

If Pickett's record of voting for Democratic issues in the House is 42 to 58 percent, then that is pretty conservative for me.
