Berlyn Grant West Sr. of the 3200 block of Silina Drive died Nov. 1, 1996.
Mr. West, a native of Norfolk, was born to the late William Warren West and Alethia Elizabeth Sawyer West on July 13, 1919. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II on both the European and Pacific fronts. He also retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 20 years. Mr. West was a 25-year member of Bow Creek Presbyterian Church, where he served as Elder for six years.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Garland West; daughter, Linda Vanrysdam and husband, Andy, of Virginia Beach; daughter, Carol Adams and husband, Chris, of Indianapolis; son, Berlyn Grant West Jr. and wife, Tanya, of Chester, Va.; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Allen and husband, Lonnie, of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Trevor and Virgil West, both of Norfolk; nine grandsons, a granddaughter, two great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Bow Creek Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bow Creek Presbyterian Church, 315 S. Rosemont Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23452.
