THURMAN B. MURRAY

Thurman Bryson Murray, 64, died Nov. 3, 1996, in his residence.

Mr. Murray was born in Nash County, N.C., and was the widower of Vernell B. Murray. He was retired from the City of Portsmouth and was a member of Surry Street Baptist Church of Portsmouth. He was one of the organizers of the Meals on Wheels Program in Portsmouth and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include two daughters, Jean Griffith and Aretta Dennis, both of Chesapeake; a son, Mark Murray of Newport News; a sister, Ethel M. Jones of Suffolk; a brother, Thomas Murray of Columbia, S.C.; three granddaughters; and six grandsons.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Cornell Potra. The family will be at Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Surry Street Baptist Church of Portsmouth.
