Tressie ``Bang-Bang'' Conrad West Hogwood, 92, a lifelong resident of Sussex County, died Sunday Nov. 3, 1996, at Southside Regional Hospital, Petersburg.
Mrs. Hogwood was born in Pavia, Pa., the daughter of the late Wilson and Lydia Corl Conrad. She was a member of Newville Baptist Church for 73 years, having served as the treasurer of the Ladies Aid Society for 50 years. She was also a member of the Women's Missionary Union of the church. She retired at the age of 88 as the assistant postmaster in Sussex after 25 years of service. She was also a matron of the Sussex County Jail. She was an avid fisherman and hunter. She was the widow of Thomas M. West Sr. and Charlie L. Hogwood Jr. and preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by a daughter, Virginia W. Clark and son-in-law, Bill Clark; a son, Thomas West Jr.; three grandchildren, Judy E. Decker, LuAnn Clark, all of Waverly, Billie S.C. Larson and her husband, Maj. Christopher Larson of Geilenkirchen, Germany; two great-grandchildren, Samantha C. Larson and Cori Tress-Irene Larson, both of Geilenkirchen; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, by the Rev. David Kelley and the Rev. Wiley P. Wallace. Burial will be in Waverly Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the funeral home and at other times at the residence of her daughter, 23366 Nebletts Mill Road, Waverly. Memorial donations may be made to Newville Baptist Church, Waverly,or to the Waverly Volunteer Rescue Squad.
