BLANCHE Z. MESSENGER

Blanche Z. Messenger passed into the Larger Life on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 1996, after a brief illness.

Mrs. Messenger was active in volunteer work all her life, including service with Christ United Methodist Church, the Girl Scouts of America, St. Clair Memorial Hospital and the Wesley Institute, all in Pittsburgh; the Randolph, N.Y. school system; Linworth United Methodist Church, Columbus, Ohio; and with St. Matthias' Episcopal Church, Midlothian. She also worked on the national advertising staff of Westinghouse Electric Corp., Pittsburgh, from 1948 to 1952. Mrs. Messenger was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Pittsburgh and she was a graduate of South Hills High School and Robert Morris College, both in Pittsburgh. She was an avid lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates and a member locally of the Steel City Connection.

She was the beloved wife for 44 years of Robert A. Messenger. She is also survived by two daughters, Cynthia Diane Kennedy of Chesapeake, Debra Sue Anderson of Portsmouth; two grandchildren, Ryan Thomas Kennedy and Lauren Diane Kennedy of Chesapeake; two sons-in-law, John Willis Kennedy Jr. of Chesapeake and Bradford Lee Anderson of Portsmouth.

A memorial service was held Oct. 26 in St. Matthias' Episcopal Church, 11300 W. Huguenot Road. Interment will be at a later date in Pittsburgh. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Matthias' Episcopal Church, marked Memorial Garden Fund. Woody Funeral Home, Midlothian, is handling arrangements.
