I've been reading your letters from people upset about U.S. troops being under command of U.N. commanders.
Well, they are either too young or have failing memories. During World War II, the 5th Army in Italy and the 8th British Army were under the command of a British general. Mark Clark, the 5th Army head, reported to him. I was there, and they can ask Senator Dole. He was, too.
If that isn't enough, they can rent a movie called ``A Bridge Too Far.'' They'll find out the affair called ``Market Garden,'' an Allied expedition into the Low Countries, was headed by the British but included the 101st Airborne reporting to the British commander. I'm sure there are many other examples of U.S. troops under foreign command. Why all the whimpering?
