Surf fishing along the northern beaches improved over the past weekend, with some catches of 15 to 20 pounds of striped bass reported from around Oregon Inlet.

A few large drum were beached Saturday morning from the surf north of Cape Point. Sea mullet, black drum and puppy drum were landed during the remainder of the day. Several big drum were taken Saturday night and a few puppy drum, mullet, speckle trout and skates were caught Sunday.

Fishing was slow along the beach from Frisco to Cape Point throughout the weekend.

Pier action along the northern beaches was slow Saturday and Sunday due to dirty water left over from Friday's strong winds.
