Melvin D. McNeil, 40, of the 500 block of Dorset Ave., died Dec. 29, 1996, in his home.
Mr. McNeil was born in Portsmouth and attended First Church of Deliverance. He was employed in the laundry room of Manning Convalescent Home for six years.
Survivors include his mother, Annie J. McNeil, and father, Roscoe McNeil of Portsmouth; three sisters, Barbara McNeil of Brooklyn, N.Y., Julia Plummer and Maggie Sutton, both of Portsmouth; five brothers, Robert L. McNeil of Brooklyn, Roscoe McNeil Jr. of Richmond, Ronald McNeil, Andra McNeil and Joseph McNeil, all of Portsmouth; three aunts; two uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. He was predeceased by a brother, David McNeil.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Corprew Funeral Home by Pastor E.M. Woodard. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Viewing will begin at noon Thursday in the funeral home.
