Verda Mae Whitfield Heggins, 84, of the 1500 block of Selden Ave., died Dec. 29, 1996, in her residence.
Born in Tuscaloosa, Ala., she was the widow of Willie L. Heggins Sr. and a member of Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church, Norfolk.
Survivors include a daughter, Gloria Cole of Chesapeake; three sons, Willie Heggins Jr. of Virginia Beach, Joseph Heggins of Norfolk, Micheal L. Heggins of Hampton; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, friends and in-laws.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Friday by the Rev. Paul Griffin in Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church, Norfolk. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in Metropolitan Funeral Home. Body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Family and friends will assemble at 1520 Selden Ave., Norfolk, on Friday at 11 a.m.
