CHARLES E. SAWYER

Charles Edward ``Tom'' Sawyer, 64, of the 100 block of Connor Farm Road, died at Albemarle Hospital on Dec. 31, 1996.

Born in Camden County, N.C., he was a farmer and attended Sharon United Methodist Church. Mr. Sawyer was the husband of Ann Pritchard Sawyer of the residence and the son of the late James Fred and Bernice Cartwright Sawyer. Besides his wife, Mr. Sawyer is survived by a daughter, Charlene Sawyer Cartwright of Camden, N.C.; a stepson, Mark D. Hewitt of Philippi, W.Va.; two brothers, James F. Sawyer of Charleston, S.C., and Marvin L. Sawyer of Elizabeth City, N.C.; three grandchildren, Wyatt Cartwright of Camden, Daniel and Miki Hewitt, both of Philippi.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City, with the Rev. Berry L. Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
