Dollie Brooks Thomas, 89, of the 3700 block of Academy Ave., died Dec. 30, 1996, in Maryview Hospital.
She was born on Aug. 21, 1907, in Norfolk and was the widow of Lester Thomas. She was a member of Grove Baptist Church and a retired retail merchant.
Survivors include a daughter, Emma Gould of Chesapeake; a son, John T. Thomas of Chesapeake; sister, Ester L. Brooks of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, Barbara G. Thurston, Charlotte G. Paige, Richard A. Gould Jr., all of Chesapeake, and Cynthia Blount of Richmond; eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; foster daughter, the Rev. Dorothy Butler of Portsmouth; daughter-in-law, Virginia Thomas of Chesapeake; cousin, Dollie Richardson of Portsmouth; and a host of nieces, nephews and numerous friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Lelia Brooks and Willie Brooks.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Friday in Grove Baptist Church by Dr. Melvin O. Marriner Sr. Burial will be in Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. Fisher Funeral Home is in charge.
