MARGARET E. WILKES

Miss Margaret Elizabeth Wilkes died Dec. 28, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.

She was born in Baltimore, Md., on Oct. 25, 1902, the oldest daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Harry Reay Wilkes. A long-time resident of Baltimore, Miss Wilkes taught in the Crippled Children's Hospital for 10 years and then as a music teacher and librarian in the public schools. After retiring, she worked in the Eisenhower Library of Johns Hopkins University. She gave many volunteer hours to Union Memorial Hospital, Meals on Wheels and other charitable organizations. She also enjoyed traveling to many countries with Presbyterian women's groups to visit missionaries. In 1992, she moved to the Ballentine in Norfolk to be near her family. She became a member of Royster Presbyterian Church and continued her long association with Eastern Star, Amaranth and Story League.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Royster Presbyterian Church, 6901 Newport Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23505. Miss Wilkes requested that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to favorite charities. Donations will be acknowledged by her nephew, Kenneth Hertzler, 712 Galahad Drive, Newport News, Va. 23608.
