DOROTHY COUNCILL

Dorothy Councill, of the 900 block of Little Neck Road, died Dec. 30, 1996, in a local hospital.

Born in Edenton, N.C., she was a retired teacher for the Norfolk Public Schools with 35 years of service. She was a member of Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church, Norfolk; was coordinator of Woman's Fellowship; director of Women's Chorus; director of youth ministry, `Buds and Buddies and Y's and Guys'; member of the Progressive Club; Missionary Society and the Willing Workers. A graduate of Elizabeth City State University, she received her master's degree in special education from Columbia University and continued her education at the University of Florida in special education. She was the daughter of the late Charlotte Drew Coston and Robert Coston and the youngest of six children, all of whom preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Richard A. Councill; two daughters, Faith Pittman and Sheila Williams, both of Virginia Beach; a son, William Richard Councill of Norfolk; six grandchildren, Richard Councill II, Rhan Pittman, Reginald Williams Jr., Ricky Pittman, Kofi Williams and Summers Williams; and a host of other friends and relatives.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church, Norfolk, by Bishop J. Clinton Hoggard. Entombment will be in Princess Anne Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. The family will be at the residence the day of the service. Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
