JOHN W. TILMAN

Bishop John W. Tilman, of the 4700 block of Jeanne St., departed this life Saturday Dec. 28, 1996, in Bayside Sentara Hospital, after a short illness.

A native of Macon, N.C., he was the son of William L. Tilman of Norfolk and the late Alice G. Tilman. He was the bishop of Apostolic Faith of Jesus Christ Inc. and the pastor of Pentecostal Church of Faith (NU)1 of Bloomfield, Conn., and Pentecostal Church of Faith (NU)2 of Norfolk. He also was a retired self-employed contractor.

Survivors also include his wife, Evangelist Carolyn Tilman; daughter, Sondra Tilman; granddaughter, Jody Dixon; grandson, William Tilman of Greensboro, N.C.; three sisters, Evangelist Viola Wyche of Virginia Beach, Elsie Carpenter of Norfolk, Alice Clark of Norfolk; a brother, Malachi Tilman Sr. of Richmond; a devoted god son, John W. Tilman of New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Bibleway Holiness Church, Chesapeake, by Bishop William Faison and Bishop John Reid. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park.
