BLANCHE A. EVANS

Blanche Artis Evans, 62, of the 1400 block of Marshall Ave., died Dec. 31, 1996, in Portsmouth General Hospital.

Born in Southampton County, she was the widow of John Thomas Evans and a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church, Newsoms.

Survivors include four daughters, JoAnn Artis of Portsmouth, Betty Artis of Capron, Gloria Artis and Mildred Wright, both of Boykins; a son, Earl Artis of Newsoms; a sister, Mary Frances Artis of Boykins; three brothers, Clyde Artis and Lee Andrew Artis, both of Newsoms, Lawrenzo Artis of Courtland; nine grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Thelma Artis and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Mount Tabor Baptist Church, Newsoms, by Dr. R.S. Steele. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Engram Funeral Home, Courtland, is handling arrangements.
