VIRGINIA B. SIMONS

Virginia Briggs Simons, 72, of the 2300 block of Battery Park Road, died peacefully Tuesday Dec. 31, 1996, in her residence.

Mrs. Simons was born and raised in the West Park View section of Portsmouth. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior on March 14, 1976, and served her Lord faithfully. She was as a faithful member of the Temple Baptist Church, Chesapeake. She was a faithful and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas K. Simons; two sons, Stephen K. Simons and wife, Patricia of Suffolk, Chris S. Simons and wife, Diana of Newfoundland, Canada; a sister, Frances Briggs Kressley and a brother, Frank T. Briggs Jr., both of Chesapeake; two cousins, William W. Briggs of Upper Saddle River, N.J., Caroline B. Davis of Portsmouth; five grandchildren, Stephen Scotts Simons, Richard Dale Simons, Jonathan Tyler Simons, David Andrew Simons, and Sarah Elizabeth Simons; a great-grandchild, Christian Dale Simons; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Temple Baptist Church by the Rev. Allen L. Dooley. A graveside service will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday in Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory be made to the Temple Baptist Church Missionary Fund, 1322 N. George Washington Highway, Chesapeake, Va. 23323.
