George Thomas Wood Jr., 75, went to be with the Lord Dec. 31, 1996, following a long illness.
He was a veteran of World War II, a retired civil servant of the Department of the Navy, a member of the DAV, a charter member of the Virginia Beach Free Will Baptist Church, a 32 degree Mason, a 50-year member of Elizabeth Masonic Lodge 34. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord, his country and his family.
A native of Norfolk, he was preceded in death by his parents, George T. Wood Sr. and Delphine Meyer Wood. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mildred Elizabeth Murrell Wood; a son, George T. Wood III and his wife, Peggy, of Kelso, Wash.; a daughter, Susan Wood Schroeder and her husband, Fredlein of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Bierden of San Antonio, Texas.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. J.D. Norris and the Rev. Ken Brackney. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Free Will Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 210 S. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23462.
