Regarding Bishop Sullivan's letter to the editor Dec. 17, ``Stop state-run gambling'': I believe this was a gem of hypocrisy. While I agree the lottery people have gone overboard, bingo is gambling also and it is endemic in most religious and charitable groups as a source of revenue.
In Bishop Sullivan's diocese, many churches have weekly bingo. If he feels so strongly about this, why doesn't he outlaw bingo games in his diocese?
Furthermore, the bishop's political activism against the death penalty is at odds with millions of Roman Catholics, myself included.
