R. Anthony Hickman, 16, died Dec. 31, 1996, in Tampa, Fla.
A native of Norfolk, Anthony was a junior at Cox High School and attended Great Neck Middle School and Trantwood Elementary School in Virginia Beach. He was sixth-grade SCA president at Trantwood and attended Old Donation Center for Gifted and Talented, played youth basketball and baseball for Great Neck League. He was a member of the following Cox High School clubs: Young Life, Latin Club, Astronomy Club, Oceanography Club. He worked part time at Ski World in Hilltop. Anthony loved to snowboard, skate, bodyboard and fish.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Patricia A. Wykle and Allen D. Wykle of Virginia Beach; father, Robert L. Hickman Jr. of Virginia Beach; two stepsisters, Jennifer D. Inchausti of Alexandria, Va., and Daphne D. Wykle of Charlotte, N.C.; aunts, Katherine Smith, Terri Dray and Sherri Salter, all of Virginia Beach; uncles, Thomas Smith, Barry Hickman, R. Wayne Miller, Scott Dray, all of Virginia Beach; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Miller of Virginia Beach; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Hickman Sr. of Virginia Beach and Mrs. Alice Wykle of Ronceverte, W.Va.; cousins, Kristina M. Smith, Amber Hickman, Heather Salter and Amanda Dray, all of Virginia Beach. Extended family includes Scott Cust of Virginia Beach, Ian Inchausti of Alexandria, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Wykle and their daughter, Andrea Wykle of Virginia Beach, Mr. Merle Wykle and his daughter, Becky, and son Chip of Roanoke, Va., and Gary Wykle.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, any contributions can be made to Frank W. Cox High School-Memo to Anthony Hickman Scholarship Fund, 2425 Shorehaven Drive, Virginia Beach, Va. 23454.
