GEORGE T. WOOD JR.

George Thomas Wood Jr., 75, went to be with the Lord Dec. 31, 1996, following a long illness.

A native of Norfolk, he was preceded in death by his parents, George T. Wood Sr. and Delphine Meyer Wood. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mildred Elizabeth Murrell Wood; a son, George T. Wood III and his wife, Peggy, of Kelso, Wash.; a daughter, Susan Wood Schroeder and her husband, Fredlein, of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Bierden of San Antonio, Texas.

Mr. Wood was a veteran of World War II, a retired Department of the Navy civil servant, a member of the DAV, a charter member of the Virginia Beach Free Will Baptist Church, a 32nd degree Mason, a 50-year member of Elizabeth Masonic Lodge 34. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord, his country and his family.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Free Will Baptist Church-Memorial Fund, 210 S. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23462.
