George W. Mangum, 78, of the 1200 block of South St., died Jan. 2, 1997, in Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk.
A native of Northampton County, he was the son of the late Haskin Patillo and Jannie Mangum. He was a retired employee of the Union Camp Corp. with 25 years service in the paper mill. He was formerly a member of the Gaston Baptist Church, Gaston, N.C., and the First Baptist Church, Franklin.
Survivors include his wife, Suetta W. Mangum; his son, George W. Mangum Jr., Herndon, Va.; a daughter, Louetta M. Jones of Kenbridge, Va.; three brothers, Bishop Dreddie Manning of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Ralph Patillo of Weldon, N.C., Marcellus Easter of Richmond; three sisters, Fannie Green of Chesapeake, Arnell E. Haywood of Richmond, Priscilla E. Pierre of Richmond; a grandson, George W. Mangum III; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church, 318 Hall St., Franklin. The remains will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. William M. Johnson and Sons Funeral Home, Franklin, is in charge.
