WESLEY G. MEEKINS

Wesley (Wes) Gene Meekins, 35, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 1997, in Chowan County.

Mr. Meekins was a native of Manteo and was a pilot for Tar Heel Aviation. He was a member of First Assembly of God, a graduate of Manteo High School, East Carolina University, Southern Illinois University, Rhema Bible Training Center, Rice Aviation, and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

He is the son of W. Mearl Meekins Jr. and Barbara (Babs) Meekins, both of Manteo, and the husband of Heidi Hemilright Meekins.

Besides his wife and parents, surviving are a daughter, Meredith Joy Meekins, and Owen Wesley Meekins, both of the home; a sister, Angie M. Midgett and husband, Sammy, and children, Elliott and Joel Midgett, of Manteo; a stepmother, Lynn C. Meekins of Manteo; two stepsisters, Karen Daniels and Laura Daniels, both of Manteo; a stepbrother, Walter Daniels of Manteo and a maternal grandmother, Emells Gray Meekins of Manteo; mother and father-in-law, Frankie and Elizabeth Hemilright of Kitty Hawk.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in First Assembly of God, Manteo, by the Rev. Ron Denham and John Charles. Burial will follow in Cudworth Cemetery, Wanchese. Friends may join the family at Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
