CLYDE S. EVANS

Clyde S. Evans, 68, of the 3200 block of Blue Ridge Court, died Jan. 1, 1997, in local a hospital.

Mr. Evans was a native of Nansemond County, Va., and a graduate of Wake Forest University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a math instructor at Marine barracks in Washington, D.C. He was a scout master of Troop 481 and member of Troop 442, and the proud father of three Eagle Scouts. His favorite activities included golfing and woodworking.

Mr. Evans retired after 25 years of service as an executive design and standards officer with the Civil Service. He received the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the third-highest honor awarded to civilians. His performance in the Combat Direction Systems computer software area earned him more than 10 awards and letters of appreciation since 1967.

Survivors include his wife, Carol L. Evans; three sons, Stephen F. Evans and his wife, Nancy L., of Overland Park, Kan., Blane S. Evans and his wife, Leslie M., of San Diego, Scott T. Evans and his wife, Teresa L., of Alpine, Calif.; four sisters, Velva M. Perry of Norfolk, Della E. Brown of Colerain, N.C., Gussie E. Mustian of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Mary E. Sessoms of Savannah, Ga.; four grandchildren, Tony, Eric, Jessica and Amber Evans, all of San Diego, and many nieces and nephews.

A chapel service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, by the Rev. Jerry Holcomb. The family will be receiving friends following the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The United Way, specifically the Boy Scouts Of America.
