Ellen Thankful Jenkins Burrell, 87, of the 1300 block of Grand Cypress Square, died Jan. 2, 1997, in a Virginia Beach hospital.
Mrs. Burrell was the widow of William Foster Burrell. She was a nurse and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two daughters, Caroline Thankful Seager and Fred Ellsworth of Keene, N.H., and Faith E. Burrell and Dwight Fulton of Virginia Beach; two sons, Bill Sidney Burrell and his wife Elisabeth Burrell of Venice, Fla., and Robert Powhatan Burrell and his wife Natalie Burrell of Cape Coral, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kara, Lisa and Josh; two step-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Katie; and one great-grandchild, Kyleen.
Services are private. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, is in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Samaritan House, Battered Women Program, 2697 International Parkway, Parkway 3, Suite 108, Virginia Beach, Va. 23452.
