EDWIN P. SWINDELL JR.

Edwin P. Swindell Jr., 79, passed away Jan. 2, 1997.

Mr. Swindell was born in New Bern, N.C., and retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Masons Naomi Lodge No. 87, South Norfolk Lodge No. 339, Khedive Temple, Scottish Rite, Arab Patrol, Chesapeake Shrine Club, and Old Timers Club.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda Flora Swindell; three sons, Albert E. Swindell of Cheyenne, Wyo., Roy R. Swindell of Bells Island, N.C., and Edwin P. Swindell III of Portsmouth; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank M. Swindell of Windsor, N.C.; sister, Peggy Swindell of Chesapeake.

He donated his body to Aeronautical Research. Memorial services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. today in Chesapeake Avenue Methodist Church by the Rev. John M. Andrews of South Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church or to Hospice Virginia Beach section.
