Charles L. Gaudry, 85, of the 9600 block of Norfolk Avenue, died Jan. 3, 1997, in a local hospital.
Mr. Gaudry was a native of Brooklyn, N.Y. He moved to Norfolk as a teen-ager in 1925. He worked first for the Norfolk Ledger Dispatch. When World War II started, he began working at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, where he remained in Civil Service for the next 32 years. After retirement, he and Mrs. Gaudry moved to Point Harbor, N.C., where he practiced his favorite pastime, fishing, for many years. While living in North Carolina, Mr. Gaudry was a member of Powell's Point Baptist Church in Currituck County.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Raiford Gaudry; three daughters, Jean Gaudry Clarke of Santa Cruz, Calif., Dorothy Gaudry Estes of Amelia Island, Fla., Jerri Gaudry Wells of Virginia Beach; two sons, Charles L. Gaudry, Jr. M.D. of Jacksonville, Fla., Joel Gaudry of Norfolk; one brother, William Whitmore of Virginia Beach; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A chapel service will be conducted at 6 p.m. today at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Norfolk Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the service time. Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Virginia, 291 Independence Blvd., Virginia Beach, Va.
