R. LOREN HOLT

R. Loren Holt went to the Lord Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, in Virginia Beach. He was 63.

Loren was a kind, compassionate, loving husband and father and he was a good friend to many. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Loren is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 40 years, Charline, a daughter, Dawana Jennings; and two sons, Michael and Jeffery; a loving son-in-law, Michael Jennings; and a loving daughter-in-law, Stacey Holt, all of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by his mother, Sarah Jane Holt; and three sisters, Lola Gunnels, Lydia Brown and Lillian Brown, all of Livingston, Tenn. He is survived by three brothers, Ralph Holt of Germantown, Tenn., Udell Holt of Knoxville, Tenn., and Lonnie Holt of Livingston. He had a host of friends and relatives he loved dearly. He was an active member of Avalon Church of Christ. He loved God very much. He was preceded in death by a son, Rickey Loren Holt.

Loren spent 22 years in the U.S. Navy and retired in 1976. He was then employed by the civil service until his second retirement in 1990. He was currently employed as a software engineer for Schlumburger Industries.

A viewing will be at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. There will be a memorial service at Avalon Church of Christ Monday at 11 a.m. The funeral will be in Livingston Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Avalon Church of Christ Building Fund or the Kempsville Volunteer Rescue Squad. He will be buried with full military honors next to his son and father. He was truly a wonderful man. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
