Paula Tyree Whitehurst, 82, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, in an Elizabeth City hospital.
Mrs. Whitehurst was a Methodist and was retired from civil service as an admiral's secretary.
She was the daughter of the late Capt. H.B. and Marian McMerrian Tyree and the wife of the late Charles Allen Whitehurst.
Surviving are two sons, David Eugene Whitehurst of Manteo and Charles Allen Whitehurst of Greensboro, N.C.; two sisters, June Everton of Columbus, Ga., and Wanda McMillan of Chesapeake; brother, Richard S. Tyree of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, Peter Whitehurst, Jane Allen Whitehurst and Charles Allen Whitehurst III, all of Greensboro; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Roanoke Island Memorial Gardens by Seth Henderson. Friends may join the family at the home of her sister, Wanda McMillan, 400 First St., Kill Devil Hills. Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, is in charge.
