John Edward Burl, 77, of the 600 block of Riverwalk Parkway died Jan. 2, 1997, in Virginia Beach.
Mr. Burl retired from the U.S. Army after 27 years and also from the U.S. Postal Service and was a Charleston, W.Va., native and the widower of Archie M. Burl. He was a deacon of Vine City Baptist Church, Atlanta. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and Korea.
Survivors include his daughters, Janis E. Burl of Yorktown and Brenda Adekeye of Atlanta; two grandchildren, Tina and William Lowery of Atlanta; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at 9 a.m. Wednesday. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
