GILBERT F. EVERTON SR.

Gilbert F. Everton Sr., 80, of the 1500 block of Blue Ridge Road died Jan. 3, 1997, in a local hospital.

A retired crane operator from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard with Local Union No. 147 operators and engineers, Mr. Everton was an East Lake, N.C., native and the widower of Evelyn M. Everton. He was a member of South Norfolk Oldtimers, a member of Chesapeake Volunteer Fire Department, Washington Burrow.

Survivors include three sons, Gilbert F. Everton Jr., Gerald T. Everton and Gary L. Everton, all of Chesapeake; brother, Roy M. Everton Jr. of North Carolina; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, by the Rev. Thomas L. Mercer Sr. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and at other times at 531 Greenway Drive, Chesapeake.
