CRIME LINE

Local police are seeking public assistance in solving these cases:

PORTSMOUTH

On Dec. 22 just after 3 p.m., the Check-X-Change in the 3800 block of George Washington Highway was robbed.

A woman presented the clerks with a threatening letter that demanded money. She then fled toward Greenwood Drive with an undisclosed amount of cash.

She is described as black, between 20 to 30 years old, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, and 130 pounds. She was wearing brown gloves, a black or brown coat and black shoes.

On Dec. 23, at 10:15 p.m., the Wilco Gas Station in the 3300 block of Victory Blvd. was robbed by two men.

While one man kept a chrome gun aimed at customers, the other went behind the counter, opened the drawers and took money.

The men then fled across Victory Boulevard toward Beazley Drive.

The first suspect is described as black, 18 to 20, 6-foot and 170 pounds.

The second is described as black, 18 to 20, 5-foot-8 and 135 pounds.

NORFOLK

On Dec. 1, at 1:45 a.m., police were called to a shooting in the 3700 block of Colley Ave.

Vareck S. Griffin, 19, of the 7500 block of Rosefield Drive, was shot. Griffin died in a local hospital.

Investigators are searching for witnesses. They believe the suspect was left alone in the apartment with the victim.

The apartment has only one entrance, and someone may have seen the suspect.

The shooting was drug related, police said.
