Gladys Adeline Norris, 94, of the 100 block of Academy St., died at Albemarle Hospital on Jan. 3, 1997.
A native of South Mills, she was a graduate of East Carolina Teachers College, now East Carolina University, Greenville. She taught school for many years, mostly in eastern North Carolina. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was the daughter of the late Charles and Adeline Sawyer Norris.
Survivors include a nephew, Charles Norris Mathews Sr. and wife Jean of Chesapeake; two nieces, Marion M. Zetzman and husband Larry of Edlina, Minn., and Helen M. Eason and husband Everette of Sanford.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Berry Taylor officiating, assisted by the Rev. Steve Eason. Burial will follow in South Mills Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
