DEMPSEY J. WHITE

Dempsey Joseph ``D.J.'' White, 74, of Route 3, died Jan. 4, 1997, in a hospital.

A native of Perquimans County, he was the husband of Mildred ``Monk'' Webb White and the son of the late Minnie Dona White and Dempsey Josiah White. He was retired from civil service where he was employed as an electronics technician. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, past master of Perquimans Masonic Lodge (NU)106 and member of the Scottish and York Rite Bodies. He was a member of Sudan Temple, Elizabeth City Shrine Club, Elizabeth City York Rite Club and Perquimans Scottish Rite Club. He was a member of American Legion Post (NU)126 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Club 8148. He had retired from the Air Force and had served during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Besides his wife, survivors include a daughter, Jenny White Cosner of Elizabeth City; two sons, Guy ``Tom'' White of Edenton and Carson Kit White of Hertford; four sisters, Eunice White and Juanita Sawyer, both of Elizabeth City, Margaret Pike of Moyock and Sybil Hurdle of Williamston; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 3 p.m. today in New Hope United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tony Collier officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Swindell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
