On Dec. 17, Chesapeake City Council voted 7 to 2 to rezone 127 acres of land between Kempsville and Butts Station Road near Greenbrier Parkway (Warrington Hall) from R15S to R(PUD)-95-01. This allows the owner to build single-family, multifamily, elderly, assisted living, townhouses, retail and commercial property and will increase the density from 800-900 to 1,300-1,400 people.
This change is inconsistent with the surrounding land use, will cause additional traffic on already burdened Kempsville and Butts Station roads and is not in agreement with the majority of the adjoining land owners.
A joint effort of civic leagues and the Chesapeake Chapter of Civic Organizations, along with a group of concerned citizens, is in the process of acquiring signatures of Chesapeake registered voters on a petition to repeal this ordinance. These signatures must be turned in to the city by Jan. 16.
I urge all citizens to get involved. Sign this petition, or even help in getting signatures.
