DAVID G. PUGH

Retired Petty Officer 1st Class David Gilmore Pugh, 64, died Saturday night, Jan. 4, 1997, in Portsmouth Naval Hospital.

He was born June 24, 1932, in Augusta County, son of Myrtle Lowe Pugh of Lyndhurst and the late Herbert C. Pugh. Mr. Pugh served with the Navy for 22 years and was the owner of Willowood Service Station, Norfolk.

Besides his mother, he is survived by three daughters, Rebecca A. Twiddy of Richmond, Debra M. Thomas and her husband, Russell of Chicago, and Sara A. Cool of Richmond; a brother, Clifton Pugh and his wife, Cathy of Lyndhurst; four sisters, Dot Terry and her husband, Jimmy, Maurice Lucas and her husband, Gene, and Paige Johnson and her husband, Rodney of Lyndhurst and Evelyn Hewitt and her husband, Harold of Waynesboro; and four grandchildren, Sara Ann Butts, Douglas A. Twiddy Jr., Stacey A. Cool, Joshua R. Thomas; and a special friend, Lois Hill of Virginia Beach and her granddaughter, Megan.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Pugh on Oct. 15, 1980; his sister, Helen Pugh on March 2, 1969; and his granddaughter, Patricia Ann Butts in September of 1975.

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sherando United Methodist Church by the Rev. Charles Langley with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Waynesboro Chapel of Etter-Reynolds Funeral Service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 628, Waynesboro, Va. 22980.

Active pallbearers will be nephews attending the service. Honorary pallbearers will be nieces attending the service.
