MYRA F. BURGESS

Myra Forrest Burgess, 92, died Jan. 7, 1997, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Burgess was born in Sebrell, Va., and was the daughter of the late Nellie Edwards Forrest and Joseph R. Forrest Sr. She was the widow of George G. Burgess Sr. Mrs. Burgess was the oldest member of Sycamore Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school classes for 4- and 5-year-olds for 60 years. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Union and for many years was leader of the Sunbeams and Mission Friends youth groups.

She is survived by two sons, Calvin R. Burgess and his wife, Margaret, and George Burgess Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth, all of Franklin; two sisters, Eula Morris of Courtland and Irma Bunch of Seattle; brother, Marvin Forrest of Sebrell; five grandchildren, Susan Grattan, Myra Burgess, G.G. Burgess III, Brian Burgess and Kevin Burgess; 12 great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Andrew, and Matthew Grattan, Matthew and Tyler Ryan Burgess, Christopher, Amanda and Jennifer Williams, Ginger and Scott Vivas, Brenda and Kenny Brown. She was predeceased by a grandchild, Ellen Burgess Williams.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Sycamore Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Reginald Warren. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Wright Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Sycamore Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Tom Moore, 23179 Storys Station Road, Courtland, Va. 23837.
