I applaud the good citizen's Dec. 31 letter: ``No compassion for the homeless.''
It is wrong, terribly wrong, for Norfolk City Council to have blocked the Salvation Army's project to convert a motel into a shelter for homeless women, children and men. Surely council members will reconsider their decision - one that presently seems arrogrant, cold-hearted and uninformed regarding the plight of homeless people.
I am confident that were the Salvation Army's request put to a public referendum today, Norfolk would vote overwhelmingly in favor of it.
Council members, reflect on your action. Don't interfere with those who would aid the homeless. Rescind your decision.
