This letter is to the person or people who stole a Royce Union BMX Detonator bicycle from my front doorway in Kingsbridge Apartments on Jan. 1.
My 13-year-old son wanted that bicycle so much, and knowing that I could never afford to buy him one for Christmas he worked for three months doing odd jobs, such as raking leaves and posting door hangers, until he earned the money to purchased it himself. He sacrificed his spare time after school and on the weekends, sometimes working in extreme weather.
On New Year's Day he left the bike in front of our front door for 15 minutes. He was devastated to see that someone had stolen it - a hard and painful lesson in life and human nature.
It breaks my heart to know that my son worked so long and hard for what he wanted only to have someone take it away before he even had the chance to enjoy it. If this was something that you wanted so badly and needed so much that you had to steal it, I hope you enjoy the fruits of my son's labor. Every time you ride it, remember where it came from and know that your happiness broke my son's heart.
