Bessie Matthews Chaplin, 84, died Jan. 9, 1997, in Virginia Beach.
A native of Norfolk County, she was the widow of Richard Chaplin and a member of Norview Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her son, Robert Lambert of Chesapeake; a stepson, Warren Chaplin of Gainsville, Fla.; a brother, William Mathews of Miami Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Wes Lambert of Nags Head, N.C., Cindy Birsinger of Richmond, Bryan Lambert of Chesapeake; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, by Dr. Vernon Murray. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
