CECIL A. WHITE

Cecil Alvin White, 91, of Route 2, died Friday Jan. 10, 1997, in Britthaven Nursing Home, Edenton.

Mr. White was born in Chowan County. The son of the late John Martin and Mrs. Missouri Norfleet `Sue'' White, he retired from the Norfolk Naval Air Station after 31 years of service. He was a member of Kittrell's United Methodist Church and was an Army veteran. He was the husband of the late Flora Belle Kirchner White.

Surviving are four daughters, Jean Derby of Gates, Martha Stahlman of Hymen, Pa., Shirley Hennington of Brookhaven, Miss., Betty Bennett of Cumberland, Md.; two sisters, Agnes Ross of Suffolk, Queenie Flowers of Lumberton, N.C.; three brothers, Carlton White of Portsmouth, Elton White of Richmond, Emmett White of Suffolk; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Cecil A. White Jr., who died last week.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Miller Funeral Home by the Rev. Bill Altman. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk. Friends may join the family from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home and other times at the home of his daughter, Jean Derby, Route 2, Gates.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
