SHELTON R. BEACHAM

Retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. Shelton Ray Beacham, 78, of the 100 block of E. Evans St. died Jan. 11, 1997.

He was born Sept. 28, 1918, in Norfolk and was raised in Kitty Hawk, N.C. The son of the late Shelton B. and Sadie Ray Midgett Beacham. He was a Naval aviator, retiring after 22 years service. He taught math at Northside Junior High School, Norfolk, for 17 years. He attended Talbot Park Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Dave Vaughan Beacham; two daughters, Martha B. Pulley and her husband, Dick, of Richmond, and Deanna Beacham and her husband, Charles Barrett, of Mechanicsville, Va.; a granddaughter, Yvonne Barrett of Richmond; two sisters, Joy Edsall of Arlington, Va., and June Overman of Elizabeth City, N.C.; two brothers, Decatur Beacham of Laurel, Md., and Dean Beacham of Arlington, Va.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Austin Cemetery, Kitty Hawk, by the Rev. Tom Wood. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Mission, 130 Brooke Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23510 or the Norfolk SPCA, 916 Ballentine Blvd., Norfolk, Va. 23504. Twiford Funeral Home, Great Bridge, Chesapeake, is in charge.
