Joseph Stimmel Keeney, 74, formerly of Virginia Beach, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997.
He was retired from the Federal Aviation Administration of Virginia, having served as a systems engineer. He was a former Boy Scout leader in the Virginia Beach area, and was instrumental in organizing the Virginia Beach Amateur Golf Tournament, of which he served as chairman.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Overfelt Keeney; two daughters and a son-in-law, Elizabeth K. (Betty) Blue of Rocky Mount and Jacqueline K. and Gorman Morehead of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Jonathan Daniel Barnwell, Frances Katherine Morehead, Gorman Morehead III and Janine Gaye Baker; and great-grandchildren, Benjamin Lee Baker, Howard Dodd Baker, Kristen Marie Baker and Madelyn Gray Spruill. Also surviving are very special friends, Bonnie Harlow and family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Flora Funeral Home Chapel, Rocky Mount, by the Rev. Virgil Soots. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County, 111 S. Main St., Rocky Mount, Va., 24151 or to the Alzheimer's Association National Headquarters, 919 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1000, Chicago, Ill. 60611-1676.
