Edna Smith Jones, 79, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, in the Rickman Nursing Care Center, Asheville.
She was a native and resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She resided in Norfolk from 1939 to 1978. She retired in 1977 from the Monticello Vending Co. and was a member of the First Church of God, Norfolk.
She was a daughter of the late Albert A. Smith and Della Gertrude Case Smith Maxwell, and the wife of Richard Woodson Jones Sr., who died May 27, 1958.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda Nadine and Lee Barrett of Chesapeake; son and daughter-in-law, Richard ``Dick'' Woodson Jones Jr. and Billie Jones of Norfolk; sister, Mildred Jones of Asheville; grandson, Richard Woodson Jones III of Miami, Fla.; and a great-granddaughter, Mary Lou Nievers of Miami.
A chapel service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park.
