I went to the bone-marrow drive being held in the hopes of finding a donor for Hannah Gosey. I had my faith in people restored.
More than 800 people came out to help this little girl. Most of us stood in line more than an hour. The actual test, which took only about five minutes, involved simply drawing two small tubes of blood. That's it! The chances of ever being called to donate are fairly small. However, I could not look at the pictures of Hannah and not wonder, Could I be the one?
There are thousands of people throughout the United States awaiting a transplant; approximately 35 of those are here in Hampton Roads.
To all of you who haven't done so, please register. Call 1-800-MARROW2 if you have any questions. Your five-minute test could mean a lifetime to someone else.
