Darrell Wayne Gilliam Sr., 38, of the 2900 block of Mintwood Road died Sunday, Jan. 12, 1997.
Wayne was head mechanic at the Tidewater Occupational Center, where he dedicated more than 15 years to the enrichment of the lives of the mentally and physically handicapped. Mr. Gilliam was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Beverly Gilliam.
Mr. Gilliam is survived by his wife, Sharon Marsh Gilliam; two sons, Darrell Wayne Gilliam Jr. and John Marshall Gilliam, both of Chesapeake; his father, Darrell Lee Gilliam and his wife, Myrtle, of Gray, Tenn.; two brothers, Jerry Gilliam of Kingsport, Tenn., and James Gilliam of Tampa, Fla. He is also survived by the family of Suzanne L. Marsh.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Loving Funeral Home by the Rev. Neal Sasser. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Darrell and John Gilliam Trust Fund, c/o Central Fidelity National Bank, P.O. Box 12602, Norfolk, Va. 23541.
